How Alternate Items Can Help When Manufacturing In MISys.
There are times in the manufacturing environment when parts run out of stock, but alternatives do exist that can be used to complete the process.
These relationships of alternate items can be set up in MISys in the Item Master File under the Alternate Tab:
In the example above, I05 is an alternate part for I06 (both of which are Wire Nuts – just different colors). Below that, we see that I06 is an alternative part for I05
This is useful in several different scenarios such as:
When processing production using auto build – if I06 is required but out of stock, MISys will know to consume I05
When processing an MRP – MRP will plan based on the availability of both parts to maximize efficiency since they can be substituted for each other.
When creating picklists for MO’s – the alternative part can be referenced to direct production staff of this substitute option.
